MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP

4th of September 2010, Saturday was a not just another day in my life. It was ‘The Day’, our University College was re-accredited with A Grade, something that brought me immense happiness. The way our Hon. Vice-Chancellor spoke about the news and the way in which he celebrated the good news with all those for whom ‘The College’ matters was something that I just can not forget in my life; Hats off to you Sir. As convener of the NAAC Steering Committee, I had a very tough time. I wanted to do it for my institution, which is an icon of social justice in this region. It has given life to thousands of people. For me personally it is one of the most sacred places in the town. Prof H.R. Laxminarayan Bhat, the principal of the College had so much faith in me and made me realize my potential. In handling all tough assignments in my life I had the support of my best half. Her illness during September 2009, put me down for a while, and I had to be attending to her needs as well. MBA(IB) was st...

WHY THEY RULED US

All the while I was wondering how a small country from the west could enslave the whole world for so long. What is that they have and we lack? My recent trip to Holland could clear the cloud that shrouded my mind for such a lon time. The Conference on Internationalising Entrepreneurship Education was a good opportunity for me to talk to the world. The papers were good and the crowd was very interesting. It is strange that Maria from Latvia was very exited to know that I am from India. She told me that she was in Bhilai in Rourkee in a Steel Plant as a technician. She also said that she met her husband ( a Latvian) in India. She is a good singer and sang 'Oh Basanthi... pavan paagal..., and Mai chali.. mai chaleee.. There were many who spoke very positively about India, especially IT Industry. But the Papers were well supported by empirical data and tested statistically. Some times it looked too very abstract for me. But it is what sells in the academic mela. The 'others' li...

Let happiness be there everywhere

One of my well wishers few days ago called me and said that he has suggested my name to a 'think tank' that would weave dreams and ideas about a just and humane society. He also told me that person looking after the project is a former Professor of IIM and a former Minister. I made it very clear that I am only interested in working towards a just, humane and a vibrant civil society that would respect democratic principles. Later I spoke to the person concerned. I was happy that there are many who share a common concerns. At times like this optimism within me grows stronger, and I feel confident about the future of this country. I should share something that happened a few days before. As usual I woke up to the morning news paper. A news item drew my attention. News was about a girl from the marginalised community in a remote village, who appeared for PU exams privately and passed with 86% of marks. It was also stated in the news that she had problem to continue her education. ...

To my dreams

It is to you my dear dreams that is leaving the college campus. Few days before, i bade good bye to graduate students for the 26th time in my life as a teacher. It is almost the same episode, every time played by different group. Most of the time students don't know who loves them the most, who takes them seriously and who does not. That was true with me too when I was a like them. Of course life will teach them who stands by them at testing time. I am always reminded of the story told my my hind teacher when I was in 8th standard. It was about a goat that did hate its owner and went out in search of freedom. One day it broke open gate and ran away. For a moment it felt on the top of the world. But soon its happiness started fading out. It was caught by person who appeared to be very nice and kind. Soon it realised that it fell into the hands of a 'butcher'. When it was about to be beheaded it was spotted by the owner and was taken back. These young fellows never understand...

Relax...

The summer in the city is unbearable. Luckily, we have enough water to have bath twice or thrice a day. Slowly I am feeling the the strain accumulated for the last six months. There are pending works that need to be attended to.
