Alumni Day

It was nice to see many of the old students gain on the college campus. It was delightening to to talk to some of the old students. I want many of them to scale greater heights in life. I felt nice after I spoke to many of them. I see lot of promises in Mr Mohandas Shetty and Deekshitha Varkaady and another boy from BA now pursuing M.Lib. I felt very sad some time through the function that lot of staff who really work hard go unnoticed and those who struggle to to stay stay close to center of gravity gets accolades. In reality those who spoil the curry are considered the best cooks. Alas it is always the case. But I love the college, my students, and those of my colleagues who always remained behind the curtains but doing great job.

AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE

It is a month that I took over as the Principal of University College Mangalore. It is my good fortune that I am given an opportunity to repay a part of the debt that I owe to my institution. The doors of opportunity to people from all sections of society  remains open in University College. It is one of the few places in this country which belongs to  people of all sections of the society. I feel that our duty is prayer and the place of work is temple. Unless we are committed to this principle rest of what we preach is a sheer waste.Teaching fraternity in higher education is paid well or very well today. Thanks to UGC. I was the Secretary of Association of Mangalore University College Teachers (AMUCT), when the first pay scale was introduced. All of us thought that higher pay would make teachers more serious and dedicated. It is very sad that this has not happened. MILES TO GO BEFORE I SLEEP

4th of September 2010, Saturday was a not just another day in my life. It was ‘The Day’, our University College was re-accredited with A Grade, something that brought me immense happiness. The way our Hon. Vice-Chancellor spoke about the news and the way in which he celebrated the good news with all those for whom ‘The College’ matters was something that I just can not forget in my life; Hats off to you Sir. As convener of the NAAC Steering Committee, I had a very tough time. I wanted to do it for my institution, which is an icon of social justice in this region. It has given life to thousands of people. For me personally it is one of the most sacred places in the town. Prof H.R. Laxminarayan Bhat, the principal of the College had so much faith in me and made me realize my potential.
